Highlights from David Lawson & Bob Cornuke
Last week was the first full week of class for the Institute, and we’ve designed the curriculum to begin with the basics. We had three days with David Lawson from Precept Ministries International and two days with Bob Cornuke from Biblical Archaelogical Search & Exploration (BASE). David walked the students through the tenets of the inductive Bible study method, teaching them to discover for themselves, and Bob broadened their horizons with stories of his explorations in the Middle East and around the world. Using the Word as his road map, Bob seeks to uncover artifacts related to Paul’s shipwreck, Noah’s ark, the ark of the covenant, the “real” Mt. Sinai, and more. No one can describe the impact of these teachings better than the students themselves, so we have listed their highlights below.
David Lawson talking about precepts was pretty awesome. Reading the word slowly and coming away with more questions to ask was amazing. When you learn to ask and research questions from the text it is quite enlightening. –Josh Folk
Last week with David Lawson and Bob Cornuke were amazing. Discovering Biblical artifacts was my favorite part! –Chris Chambers
David Lawson was very insightful. I am glad he did exactly what he did because I feel more confident about the inductive method than I did when I tried it in the past by myself…twice! –Erin Handley
Bob made me realize that Scripture can be simple, and you can read it for exactly what it is. I realize that these stories are not simply stories but history. –Liz Lake
Honestly, my favorite insight from the past week was the hands-on work with precepts. It was great to do some of the inductive Bible study step-by-step and really see all the depth that can be found without using any outside sources! –Denise Meyer
Often, we hear on the Discovery Channel or History Channel someone’s interpretation of the Bible based on their findings in archaeology. It is great to hear how the Bible is being utilized to drive archaeology. The truth of Bible is vindicated by the evidence in this world. I love the work that people like Bob Cornuke do! –Terrel Dodd
One of the things I really liked about Bob Cornuke’s lecture was not just having interesting stories about searching for artifacts from the Bible, but one that he proves that the Bible is a living, breathing thing that can be applied to our lives today. It wasn’t just useful in the past—it’s still current today. –Jared LeBaube
I really enjoyed David Lawson spending three days teaching us how to study our Bibles. I never had anyone walk me through scripture and go into depth of how to teach yourself. I feel it was very beneficial to my walk with the Lord and am so grateful we started with the foundation of scripture from which we can build all other learning. –Dan Dipzinski
The highlight for me this week would be discovering the location of Mt. Sinai! It just amazes me to see Scripture come to life like that! All these years of growing up and reading the Bible I’ve never realized how much I didn’t know about the discoveries of Biblical history and treasure! –Calvin Thomas
