Margaret Ashmore

Author, Speaker, and Artist, Denton, Texas

Margaret Ashmore

Margaret Ashmore is an author, speaker, and artist. Her greatest passion is to declare the sufficiency of Christ for healing of hearts, restoring of souls, and transforming lives. She speaks from her own testimony of God’s amazing grace which delivered her from the darkness immorality both with men and women into the eternal light of God’s kingdom with absolute freedom and joy. She discovered by that same grace that only in going to the cross to lay down one’s self life can they experience Christ’s life which breaks every bond, heals every past, and fills every heart with overflowing love. She would say as Fanny Crosby sang, “This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.”

Margaret attends Benchmark Bible Church in Denton, Texas where she teaches bible studies and from her church is sent out to teach at women’s retreats and conferences. Margaret has always been single, considered by her a gift so that she can be free to serve the Lord in “feeding His sheep”. She is also a breast cancer survivor.

John Elmore

South Dallas Pastor, Watermark Community Church, Dallas

John Elmore

John has been recently appointed at the Senior Pastor of Watermark Community Church’s South Dallas Campus.  Prior to that, he served as the Men’s Director of re:generation recovery. He has the opportunity to walk with men who are humbly seeking and finding freedom in Christ from the pain and fallout of addictions, struggles, and broken life patterns – paths that he has know in his life too. As a recovering alcoholic, John knows firsthand the wreckage that comes from living a life disconnected from God. But much more than that, he now knows that Jesus’ promise of a new, full, abundant life in Him is better than he ever dreamed life could be – and he now has the joy of pointing people to the Healer, Redeemer, Creator, and Deliverer.

John was raised in Springfield, Missouri, and graduated from Baylor University. After eight years in advertising, sales, and reckless, foolish living, he found himself walking into an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, following a family intervention in 2005. At the age of 30, John surrendered his life and will to Jesus and everything began changing. Addictions, hopelessness, anxiety, and depression quickly turned to freedom, purpose, peace and joy. John enrolled in the Kanakuk Institute to be discipled and learn the Bible and earned a Master’s in Ministry from John Brown University and a Master’s in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary – while serving with ministries in Dallas, Haiti, and Sudan along the way.

Hear John talk about his work at Watermark and teaching at the Kanakuk Institute.

Scott Klusendorf

President, Life Training Institute

He has also participated in secular talk show appearances, including KABC out of Los Angeles.

He’s provided that same training to students at Summit Ministries and Focus on the Family Institute.

Scott is the author of The Case for Life: Equipping Christians to Engage the Culture, released in March 2009 by Crossway Books. Before working for Hope and Help, David and BJ spent 28 years with Precept Ministries International. Both David and his wife, BJ, are mentors, authors, and conference speakers who specialize in teaching people how to study the Bible for themselves.

Currently, David is working on a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. His project is focused on discipling oral learners using inductive Bible study techniques as listening skills so that oral learners can disciple others.

At the Institute, David teaches the skills of Inductive Bible Study. Inductive Bible study is an approach to God’s Word, focusing on three basic steps that move from a general overview to specifics. Through these three steps, we apply inductive reasoning, which is defined as the attempt to use information about a specific situation to draw a conclusion. The steps are observation (what does it say?), interpretation (what does it mean?), and application (what does it mean for my life?). Inductive Bible study is a valuable tool in understanding and applying the principles of God’s Word.

Randy Weeaks

For over 30 years, Randy Weeaks served in ministry in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The past 26 years, he and his wife, Doris, were at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas, where he served as Senior Pastor, until his retirement in November 2018. Some of the greatest joys for them was seeing people come to Christ and in seeking to be a blessing to those around them.

Randy was born and raised in Oklahoma; Doris is a native Texan. Having both come from humble beginnings, they have been on the receiving end of blessings from the generosity of others throughout their lives. Their desire to live a life of generosity and blessing others has been a driving force in their lives as a couple, and to set an example for their two sons, Aaron and Tyler.

When God began to plant the seeds of Why Not Bless in Randy’s heart and mind, it seemed only fitting that this would be a great avenue to use his gifts and talents in retirement. It was at this point that Randy began to seek what steps he would need to take for that vision to become a reality. Each step only further confirmed that this truly was God’s will for the next chapter in his and Doris’ lives. It is their prayer that God will use Why Not Bless to be a catalyst to bring about a revival of generosity.

Afshin Ziafat

Pastor, Providence Church, Frisco, TX

Afshin Ziafat

Born in Houston, Afshin moved with his family to their native country of Iran when he was two years old. In the midst of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, Afshin’s family moved back to Houston at age six. In the second grade, he was given a Bible by a tutor who was teaching him the English language. He read that Bible 10 years later as a senior in high school and came to faith in Christ.

Ultimately, his family would disown him because of his faith in Christ, and he began to understand the call of Christ on each of our lives—to follow Jesus regardless of the cost. In so doing, Afshin found that the reward was greater than the cost, demonstrating the truth of Matthew 16:25 – “that whoever loses his life for the sake of Christ will find it.”

Afshin received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Texas at Austin. He went on to receive his Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages degree from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. In 2008, he married the love of his life, Meredith.

For the last 10 years, he has traveled around the world proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in churches, conferences, and missions. Afshin serves on the Board of Directors for Vertical Bible Study at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He also partners with Elam Ministries and travels to the Middle East to train Iranian pastors.
